Posted by 13 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/invisible-disabilities-raising-awareness-and-understanding/)

Description: Invisible disabilities are conditions that are not immediately apparent to others, making them particularly challenging for those who live with them. Sometimes referred to as hidden disabilities, these are conditions that don’t always exhibit clear physical or visible signs. A person may appear perfectly healthy, yet they may be dealing with severe pain, exhaustion, cognitive challenges, or emotional distress. Some common examples of invisible disabilities include Autism Spectrum Disorders, Multiple Sclerosis, Mental Health Conditions, Autoimmune diseases etc. A significant hurdle for individuals living with invisible disabilities is obtaining proper support and assistance to navigate their day-to-day lives. The NDIS, initiated in Australia in 2013, is a comprehensive disability support scheme designed to provide support and funding for individuals with disabilities. It is a crucial safety net for many, including those with invisible disabilities, by ensuring access to services, therapy, and adaptive equipment. While having an invisible disability doesn’t render someone ineligible for the NDIS, at times, they may encounter challenges in accessing the necessary funding. Raising awareness and understanding of invisible disabilities within the NDIS framework is an ongoing and important endeavour. It is essential for ensuring equitable access, reducing stigma, and providing personalised support to those who need it most. The NDIS should continuously work to make its processes and guidelines more inclusive and flexible, ensuring that individuals with invisible disabilities are not left behind. As of now, people with invisible disabilities can reach out to their Local Area Coordinators who are available to offer advice, knowledge, and assistance to access the NDIS. Aastha Community Services is dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding of invisible disabilities as well as to help reduce stigma and misconceptions surrounding them. We understand that all disabilities are not immediately visible and that support should not be contingent on the visibility of a condition. Contact us today to find out how we can help you to access the necessary NDIS support and services. https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/invisible-disabilities-raising-awareness-and-understanding/

Posted by 22 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/children-with-disabilities-nurturing-growth-and-development-with-the-ndis/)

Description: The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has played a crucial role in supporting children with disabilities to grow and develop to their full potential. Various support and services under the NDIS were implemented with the aim of promoting independence, social inclusion, and improved quality of life for individuals living with disabilities, including children. The NDIS recognises the importance of early intervention for children with disabilities. Early support and therapy can make a significant difference in a child’s development and future outcomes. That’s why NDIS has an early childhood approach in place that focuses on providing assistance to children facing developmental delays or disabilities and their families to ensure that these children have the best possible beginning in life. NDIS early childhood approach supports children younger than 9 and offers specialised support and services tailored to their needs. These supports and services have a primary goal of enhancing the child’s development, ensuring the well-being of both the child and their family, and actively involving the child within their community. In order to access the NDIS early childhood approach, parents can get in touch with an early childhood partner. NDIS’s commitment to providing expert care and delivering family-centred support using the best-practice model ensures that each child receives the tailored assistance needed for their unique developmental journey. Early intervention allows children to acquire skills and abilities that are essential for their development. This can include improved communication, motor skills, and cognitive abilities. It also empowers children to become more independent, reducing their reliance on caregivers and support services as they grow. The positive effects of early intervention often extend into adulthood, improving a person’s overall quality of life and participation in society. Aastha Community Services can help parents to access the NDIS early childhood approach and ensure positive long-term outcomes for their children. Posted by 28 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/exploring-ndis-short-term-accommodation-options-for-people-with-disabilities/)

Description: The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) in Australia recognises the importance of providing respite to primary caregivers of people with disabilities. Family members and carers of individuals with disabilities often experience significant physical and emotional fatigue. NDIS Short-Term Accommodation, including respite, (STA) support allows carers to recharge and take care of their own well-being, ultimately benefiting people with disabilities. Meanwhile, STA support offers a safe, supportive, and accessible environment for people with disabilities to pursue new things, develop their skills and expand their social circle. Short-Term Accommodation, including respite, support helps eligible NDIS participants to take a break from mundane routines and enjoy a short stay away from home. This enables their carers to take a break from their usual duties as well. Using the STA funding available in their NDIS plan, participants can access temporary accommodation, food, personal care and capacity-building activities that can enhance their skills. STA service providers will ensure that the participants receive uninterrupted care and support while they are spending time away from home. Typically, the NDIS provide funding for a maximum of 28 days of Short-Term Accommodation per year. Participants can choose to use it consecutively for up to 14 days, or opt to use a single weekend each month. In most cases, STA funding is provided at a group rate, unless there is substantial evidence that the participant’s disability necessitates individualised support. NDIS Short-Term Accommodation support has a profound impact on the lives of people with disabilities and their families. This support promotes independence and improves the well-being of individuals with disabilities and their carers. Aastha Community Services offers respite, support, and opportunities for growth and social connection through our STA services. As we continue to prioritise inclusivity and accessibility as an NDIS service provider, we encourage you to reach out to us to learn more about our support and services. https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/exploring-ndis-short-term-accommodation-options-for-people-with-disabilities/

Posted by 4 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/selecting-an-ndis-sil-provider-how-to-make-the-right-decision/)

Description: Supported Independent Living (SIL) is an NDIS-funded support that offers support and assistance to people with disabilities to live independently and improve their quality of life. Choosing the right SIL provider is a significant decision that can greatly impact the NDIS experience of individuals with disabilities. The NDIS aims to empower people with disabilities to lead fulfilling lives, and selecting the right SIL provider plays a vital role in achieving this goal. It is important to find out whether the SIL service provider is experienced and participant-focused before making a decision. When it comes to SIL providers, it is always better to choose a registered NDIS service provider. Their registration status is a strong indicator that the provider meets the rigorous standards set by the NDIS for quality and safety. Different SIL providers may offer a variety of services, and it’s essential to match the needs of the participants with the services provided. Discuss the requirements with potential providers to ensure that they can meet the specific disability support needs of the participant. The quality of care provided by an SIL provider heavily depends on their staff’s qualifications and training. So it is important to disability support and relevant certifications. Finally, a good service provider should create individualised care plans for each participant. Ask potential providers about their approach to creating and regularly reviewing the care plans to ensure they align with the participant’s expectations for person-centred care. We are registered with the NDIS and provide personalised SIL support plans to help our participants live as independently as possible. We can positively impact your NDIS journey and deliver you the best outcomes. Posted by 13 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/the-importance-of-choice-and-control-in-ndis-core-support/)

Description: Choice and control empower individuals with disabilities to make decisions about their lives, just like anyone else. This autonomy and self-determination are fundamental aspects of human dignity and personal freedom. The principles of ‘choice and control’ are central to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), providing individuals with disabilities with the power to make choices about the support and services they receive. This helps them to change from being passive recipients of care to active decision-makers in their own lives. Choice and control of the participants are especially important when it comes to NDIS Core supports. These supports form the foundation of a participant’s support package under the NDIS. Core support categories including Assistance with Daily Life, Consumables, Assistance with Social & Community Participation and Transport are intended to address the most fundamental daily living needs of individuals with disabilities. Providing choice and control allows participants to tailor their Core supports to match their specific requirements, ensuring that the services they receive are the best fit for them. This also encourages service providers to deliver high-quality services and cater to the preferences of their participants. One of the primary goals of the Core support categories is to build the independence of the participants and reduce the amount of support that they need in the long run. Having choice and control will help the participants to adapt their support plan to address these changing needs in the future. Here at Aastha Community Services, we believe that protecting the choice and control of the participants is essential for helping them to lead fulfilling and self-directed lives. The implementation and promotion of choice and control are critical steps toward creating a more inclusive future for people with disabilities. Contact us today to learn more about the NDIS principles of ‘choice and control.’ https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/the-importance-of-choice-and-control-in-ndis-core-support/

Description: The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is founded upon the fundamental principles of inclusivity and accessibility, ensuring that every individual, regardless of their disability, is able to lead a fulfilling and independent life. NDIS short-term accommodation, including respite, is one such support funded to promote independence and provide a supportive environment to eligible people with disabilities. Short-term accommodation (STA) is designed to provide respite and support for both participants and their carers. It allows NDIS participants to have a short stay away from their homes and a break from their usual routines without compromising on the quality of care and support that they receive. STA support must prioritise inclusivity and accessibility for all to ensure that the facilities at the temporary accommodation are equipped to meet the unique needs of each participant. A short stay away from home with the help of respite care offers several advantages. It provides the participants with the opportunity to explore new experiences, creates the possibility of making new friends and acquiring new skills, and can help sustain their current living arrangements by giving informal support networks a break. Personal assistance, accommodation, meals, and skill-building activities are covered under STA funding. Short-term accommodation becomes particularly valuable when one’s usual support network is unavailable for a brief period, ensuring continuity of care and support. However, the STA providers must ensure that the temporary accommodation that they are providing to the participants is designed to cater to a diverse range of individuals, irrespective of their disability type, age, gender, or cultural background. The support staff assisting the participants at the respite location should also be mindful of these aspects. Aastha Community Services ensures that all our participants receive equitable access to STA services. This responsibility stems from our commitment to promoting inclusivity and accessibility in all the support and services that we provide. Posted by 24 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/tailored-support-for-unique-needs-advantages-of-ndis-in-home-support/)

Description: The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has always strived to accommodate the diverse disability experiences of its participants and provide personalised support. Each individual living with a disability is unique with their own set of needs, goals, and strengths. That is why one of the most impactful aspects of the NDIS is its emphasis on tailored support, particularly through in-home support. Personalized in-home support recognises the unique disability support needs of the participant and strives to provide care that aligns with their specific needs and preferences. This approach not only promotes independence and well-being but also strengthens the confidence of the participants in achieving their goals faster. NDIS in-home support helps participants with significantly high support needs to receive professional care within the comfort of their own homes. This eliminates the need for long stays in residential care facilities, ensuring that the participants feel safe and stay connected with their families. The familiar surroundings of the home contribute to a greater sense of comfort and well-being. Another important feature of the NDIS in-home support is the level of personalization it offers. Unlike a care facility or a hospital, where individuals might have to adapt to a predefined routine, in-home support is designed around the unique needs and preferences of the individual. Whether it’s assistance with daily tasks, managing complex medical needs, or providing mental-health support, in-home support services under NDIS are tailored to cater to the specific needs of the participant. The flexibility of in-home support also allows the NDIS to adjust the level of support provided, modify care routines and address the changing needs of the participants over time. Aastha Community Services understands that receiving professional care and support in the comfort of one’s own home can have a significant positive impact on the mental and physical well-being of individuals with disabilities. As a registered NDIS service provider, we can help you connect with trained support workers who deliver in-home support and services. NDIS Funding Service in Perth,WA | NDIS PsychoSocial Support in Perth,WA

Posted by 4 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/transport-assistance-in-the-ndis-ensuring-accessibility-and-independence/)

Description: In today’s world, access to transportation is more than just a convenience – it’s a crucial aspect of living an independent and fulfilling life. For individuals living with disabilities, transportation is important to engage with their community and access essential services. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) recognises the importance of transportation for people with disabilities and provides funding for it through the Core Supports budget in a participant’s NDIS plan. If a participant finds it difficult to use public transport due to their disability, they may be eligible for this assistance. The NDIS offers a range of transport support options to meet the diverse needs of participants. Mainly, the transport funding can be classified into two: 1. General and Specialised Transport Individuals who require transportation for activities outside of the scope of services such as commuting to work or school, as well as for services offered by organisations other than the one funding transport assistance, are classified as General Transport. Participants are allocated funds to remunerate a service provider (which could be a support worker, taxi, Uber, etc.) to facilitate their transportation to a specific activity. This funding is exclusively designated for the transportation of the participant and cannot be allocated to a family member for chauffeuring the participant around. 2. Activity-based Transport Activity-based transport is an integral part of another approved service within the core or capacity-building budget. During the journey, the support worker not only provides transportation but also offers support to the participant throughout the activity. This support can be delivered to multiple participants at the same time. At Aastha Community Services, we understand that transportation is more than just a means of getting from one place to another. It’s a crucial support that connects individuals with opportunities, services, and social interactions that contribute to an independent and fulfilling life. Contact us today to access our safe, convenient, and reliable transportation support and services. https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/transport-assistance-in-the-ndis-ensuring-accessibility-and-independence/

Description: Collaborating with the families and carers of people with disabilities is important in creating a strong and responsive disability support network. The journey towards independent living becomes seamless and more enriching because of the collaborative approach towards disability care. Additionally, it amplifies the benefits from various supports and services funded by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). When it comes to NDIS supports like Supported Independent Living (SIL), families and carers can contribute to setting achievable goals for the participants and help them build life skills. It also helps the NDIS to better understand the participant’s aspirations, preferences and life goals. Supported Independent Living is a home and living support option funded by the NDIS which helps eligible participants to access paid personal support. NDIS Guide Dog Support in Perth,WA | NDIS provider support and Role of Assistance Animals.

Posted by 29 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/enhancing-independence-the-significant-role-of-assistance-animals/)

Description: Assistance animals are an important support for individuals living with disabilities, enabling them to lead more independent and fulfilling lives. The inclusion of assistance animals in the lives of people with disabilities can have significant positive effects like improved mental and emotional well-being. Assistance animals are not pets but specially trained animals that provide crucial support to people with disabilities, helping them to perform tasks they would otherwise find difficult to do on their own. Under the NDIS, the assistance animal is disability-related support that is funded only if it meets the NDIS funding criteria. Assistance animals most commonly funded for disability support are dog guides. The NDIS has made it mandatory that the assistance animal must be trained by an accredited provider and the animal has passed the Public Access Test. To be considered for funding, the assistance animal must be capable of actively performing at least three specific tasks that directly address the participant’s disability-related needs. A lot of importance is given to the safety of the assistance animal as well. The funding for an assistance animal will be withheld by the NDIS if there is a potential threat to its well-being and safety. The participant needs to pass a suitability assessment before being able to access support from assistance animals. These suitability assessments are carried out by accredited assistance animal providers. Once the assistance animals support is included in a participant’s NDIS plan, the NDIS will also cover the cost of the animal’s upkeep. Aastha Community Services understands the positive impact of assistance animals on the lives of those with disabilities. As a registered NDIS service provider, we can help you access the NDIS Assistance animals including dog guides support through which you can enhance your independence and enrich your life. Contact us today to know more about our support and services. https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/enhancing-independence-the-significant-role-of-assistance-animals/

Description: Participating in social and community activitieshas the power to enhance one’s sense of belonging, connection, and inclusion, while simultaneously building confidence and promoting a sense of safety. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funding for personalised support and services that helps people with disabilities to access activities and opportunities that help them to actively engage with their community. Short- Term Accommodation (STA), including respite, is an NDIS support that provides the necessary assistance and temporary accommodation required for the participants to take part in community activities and foster social connections. This also helps the primary caregivers of those participants to take a break from their normal routine. Short-Term Accommodation, including respite, offers the combined advantage of helping the participants as well as their carers. The STA funding allows the participant to stay away from their usual home for a short period of time. They will experience new surroundings, acquire new skills and meet new people during their stay. This will help people with disabilities to connect with like-minded individuals and foster meaningful interactions within communities. Short Term Accommodation will cover the cost of personal care, food, lodging and assistance to participate in capacity-building activities. In the meantime, this will also provide respite for the informal support network of the STA participants. STA support can help us to build more inclusive and connected communities where everyone can actively participate and achieve their goals. Description: Supported Independent Living (SIL) is funded by the NDIS to enable people with disabilities to live independently while receiving personalised support. SIL support focuses on building the independent living skills of the participants along with paid personal assistance to take care of their daily living activities. Supported Independent Living is a home and living support option specifically designed for people with higher support needs who wants to explore independent living. This support is funded for participants who are 18 years of age or above, making it ideal for young adults with disabilities who may be planning to move out of their parent’s homes. While deciding on SIL funding, the NDIS considers the age of the participant, the level of support they need daily and whether the SIL support meets the NDIS funding criteria. A participant is likely to be eligible for SIL support if they require more than 8 hours of assistance from the NDIS support workers to accomplish their daily living activities or if they need support throughout the day including overnight support to manage their life. Prospective SIL participants will have to submit assessments and reports from a qualified and licensed allied health professional or behavioural support practitioner that provide insights into the level of support that they may require. Posted by 4 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/ndis-housing-is-supported-independent-living-the-right-option-for-your-needs/)

Description: Living independently is an important part of community integration for people with disabilities. It allows them to have greater choice and control over their lives and enables them to make decisions for themselves. Independent living doesn’t imply that people with disabilities have to manage day-to-day tasks alone. In the NDIS context, independent living often involves accessing the necessary support and services which will help the participants to live on their own or with people who share similar support needs. The NDIS-funded support which assists the participants to be independent at their homes is called Supported Independent Living (SIL). Supported Independent Living (SIL) is designed to meet the needs of participants who require substantial assistance from an NDIS support worker, including overnight support to carry out their daily living tasks. This can include help with cooking, cleaning, household chores and personal care. SIL services are better suited for participants with higher support requirements who need help every day of the week for 24 hours. Therefore, the level of assistance that the participant needs in their home daily is an important aspect taken into consideration by the NDIS before funding SIL in your plan. Supported Independent Living is meant to be shared with participants who have similar support needs. If you are not ready to share your support, SIL may not be the best home and living option for you. Apart from this, the NDIS also checks whether Supported Independent Living support meets all their funding criteria before including it in a participant’s plan. Aastha Community Services believes that people with disabilities have the right to quality support and services which helps them lead a life of their choice. We can connect our participants with experienced and trained support workers who will help them live a life of dignity and independence. Contact us today to know more about our Supported Independent Living services.

DIS Funding Service in Perth,WA | NDIS PsychoSocial Support in Perth,WA

Posted by 23 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/the-importance-of-person-centred-care-in-supported-independent-living/)

Description: People with disabilities have the right to live independently and be a part of their communities. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) makes it possible for people with disabilities to achieve their independent living goals with the help of Supported Independent Living (SIL)funding. It is a support designed to assist NDIS participants who need a significant level of assistance to be able to live on their own. Using SIL funding, eligible participants can access the help of support staff to take care of their everyday tasks including personal care, meal preparation, medication management, household chores, and much more. This enables the participants to be able to move into a home of their own and be truly independent without relying too much on their friends and family. Person-centred support is one of the core principles of the NDIS. Each participant is unique and their disability support needs could be vastly different. Therefore, it is important to include support and services that best aligns with the NDIS goals and individual disability needs of each participant in their SIL support plan. Several participants who are recipients of SIL funding may also receive funding for a support coordinator. The support coordinators will ensure that the right mix of supports is available in a participant’s plan as part of delivering person-centred support. SIL service providers can utilize the roster of care document to describe the services they plan to provide to a participant to meet the specific goals and support requirements of that participant. The NDIA utilizes this information to obtain an understanding of the type of assistance a Supported Independent Living (SIL) participant may receive during a typical week. Person-centred care will help the participants to receive maximum benefits from the NDIS and swiftly achieve their goals. Aastha Community Services understands the importance of person-centred care when it comes to Supported Independent Living. Since SIL supports are mostly delivered in shared living arrangements, a person-centred approach is important in paying attention to the individual needs of each participant. We have a team of trained support staff who can provide you with round-the-clock SIL assistance to help you achieve your home and living goals. Contact us today to know more.

Best NDIS Mental Health Support in Perth | Psycho Social Support in Western Australia

Posted by 10 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/service/ndis-mental-healthcare-support-providers/)

Description: There has been incredible progress on vaccination and other physical aspects of the pandemic. But the stress, isolation, and anxiety suffered by people around the world have led some of them to mental disorders, which have been overlooked. The statistics on mental health in Australia suggest that 46% of people aged 16-85 had experienced a mental disorder during their lifetime. Lack of awareness could lead to untreated mental disorders, poorer performance at work and school, suicidal tendencies, and inability to have a good social life. But, how could we work against the stigma attached to mental health? Start by giving the mentally affected, respect and acceptance. This will help them cope with their condition. Being aware of mental health and advocating for them will provide them the same kind of rights and opportunities as others. But the most important part is to help them reach out to medical support. Disability support service providers, like Aastha Community Service (ACS) – a registered NDIS Mental Health Support Provider in Western Australia, could direct them to the right mental health provider who suits their needs. These could be psychiatrists, psychologists, clinical social workers, or professional counselors. They also provide psychosocial support recovery service, working together with the individuals, their families, and carers to provide community-based support to achieve their recovery goals. Posted by 12 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/how-to-advocate-for-disability-rights-and-accessible-services/)

Description: The National Disability Insurance Scheme has done a commendable job in transforming the way disability support and services are provided to people with disabilities. The NDIS support and services are crucial in helping its participants develop their decision- making abilities, which in turn empowers them to exercise choice, control, and the ability to speak up for themselves. But the NDIS support cannot replace the benefits that independent advocacy support can provide for a person with a disability. Disability advocacy is the practice of taking action, speaking, or writing to advance, defend, and uphold the human rights of those with disabilities. An independent advocate is a person, without any conflict of interest, who takes action in accordance with the stated requests, will, choice and rights of people with disabilities. This is especially helpful for those who do not have access to informal advocacy through friends and family and are unable to advocate for themselves because of complex disability challenges. Australian federal government, together with a few state and territory governments, provides funding for independent advocacy on behalf of people with disabilities.Independent advocates Aastha Community Services understand the importance of Independent Disability Advocacy in protecting the rights of our participants. The National Disability Advocacy Program (NDAP), created by the Department of Social Services of the Australian government, provides effective advocacy for individuals with disabilities. NDIS Funding Service in Perth,WA | NDIS PsychoSocial Support in Perth,WA

Posted by 22 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/supported-independent-living-and-respite-care-know-the-difference/)

Description: The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides a range of funded support and services that assists eligible people with disabilities in actively pursuing their goals and enables them to live as independently as possible. The NDIS gives their participants choice and control over how to effectively use their NDIS funding and the way their support will be delivered, including the choice of providers. Supported Independent Living and Respite Care Support are two different types of home and living support that can be funded in an NDIS plan. While both supports are designed to provide the required assistance to NDIS participants, they differ in terms of the specific participant needs they serve. Supported Independent Living (SIL) assists participants with higher support needs to be independent at home. It especially helps young participants who are above 18 to move out of parental care or the homes of their loved ones and enables them to live on their own. Meanwhile, Short Term Accommodation, including respite provides assistance to participants to live out of their homes for a brief period. This will not only help the participants but also their caregivers as they can take a break from their carer role. Supported Independent Living (SIL)support can aid the participant with their daily activities such as bathing, getting dressed, meal preparation and household chores. On the other hand, Respite Support covers the cost of personal care, accommodation, food and assistance for capacity-building activities that the participant has agreed to. Unlike Supported Independent Living which is a long-term support, participants can only access up to 28 days of Short-Term Accommodation per year. A registered NDIS service provider like Aastha Community Services can help the participants access Supported Independent Living and Short-Term Accommodation, including respite depending on their individual disability support needs. Contact us today to find out which support is more suitable for you and better aligns with your goals.

Posted by 5 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/supported-independent-living-how-ndis-makes-the-decision-to-fund-sil-in-your-plan/)

Description: Home and living support options are integral in promoting the independence of people with disabilities and in ensuring that they can lead a quality life. Depending on the disability needs of the participants as well as their home and living goals, NDIS provides access to various support and services. Supported Independent Living (SIL) is funded in the plans of participants with higher support needs who require intense support throughout the day. When NDIS funds a living support option like SIL services, they want to ensure that they are funding the right and most appropriate support for participants that are beneficial both now and in the future. The NDIS determine whether the participant will benefit from SIL support if: • It helps them achieve their NDIS goals. • It helps the participants to increase or maintain their functional capacity. • It helps them accomplish more daily tasks with less assistance. • It reduces their future person-to-person support needs. • It helps in fostering stronger ties with family, community and health services. The NDIS funding decision will also depend on the evaluations provided by health professionals regarding the participant’s accommodation and disability support needs. If the participant doesn’t require more than eight hours of significant support, then there may be other home living support options that better suit their needs. Aastha Community Services can assist the participants in accessing the Supported Independent Living (SIL) services by helping them assess their disability support needs. We can connect you with trained support staff who can deliver round-the-clock SIL assistance which will help you become independent at home. Through our SIL service you can establish a routine in which all your personal care activities and disability needs are seamlessly managed. Contact us today to know more about the NDIS as well the funded support and services.

Posted by 14 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/navigating-the-ndis-a-comprehensive-guide-for-epilepsy-management/)

Description: Epilepsy is a medical condition that impacts the functioning of a person’s brain, causing them to experience seizures. It can be a challenging condition to manage and people with disabilities who has epilepsy are at a higher risk of experiencing such seizures. Seizures can appear in a variety of ways in a person such as losing the ability to talk, losing control of one’s body, feeling confused, and suffering from convulsions and repetitive movements. Triggers are situations, habits, and things that can increase the probability of seizures in some people. Some of the common triggers include lack of sleep, improper medication management and having a fever or some other sickness. The right kind of support and care can help people with disabilities to manage seizures and avoid triggers. Epilepsy supports are funded by the NDIS under disability-related health supports if it is directly related to the participant’s disability. If a participant is unable to manage their Epilepsy because of their disability, the NDIS may fund supports such as training provided for support workers who will assist the participant in implementing their Epilepsy Management Plan (EMP), Emergency Medication Management Plan (EMMP) during seizures and help participants to monitor seizures. Depending upon the disability needs of a participant, the NDIS may also fund the services such as the services of a nurse and assistive technology to monitor and manage seizures. Though the NDIS does not provide funds to create an Epilepsy Management Plan (EMP) or Emergency Medication Management Plan (EMMP) for the participant, they may fund the services of a support coordinator who can help the participants to connect with organisations that will help them form such support plans. Aastha Community Services can help eligible participants access Epilepsy supports by assisting them in providing evidence to the NDIS which substantiates their disability-related support needs. We can connect you with trained support workers who will help you to mitigate seizures and manage your Epilepsy. Our experienced support coordinators can help you reach out to the best Epilepsy support organisations to create a custom care plan for you. Contact us today to know more.

Posted by 29 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/ndis-participant-transport-understanding-your-options/)

Description: Transport is a crucial support for people with disabilities as it enables them to access various services and helps them to have an active community life. Access to transport helps them live independently and engage in activities that build their skills and boost their morale. A range of support options like activity-based transport as well as general and specialised transport is available through the NDIS to assist the participants with their transport needs. NDIS transport support is designed to accommodate the individual needs of each participant after taking their disability and preferred activities into consideration. General and Specialised Transport Participants who need transportation to an activity that is not included in a service like going to work or school and to services provided by another organisation than the one providing transport support is referred to as General Transport. Contrary to other services, general and specialised transport is offered as a stand-alone service, and their costs must be included as a distinct line item in the participant’s Core Supports budget. Activity-based Transport Activity-based transport refers to transportation that is part of another approved service within the core or capacity-building budget. The support worker driving the participant to the activity is going to provide support to the participant throughout the duration of the activity. Unlike General Transport support which can be delivered to only one participant at a time, activity-based transport can involve a group of participants. The cost of activity-based transport is automatically calculated based on the time and distance spent travelling during the delivery of the service. Group rates are applicable in case more than one participant is involved. Aastha Community Services provide safe and convenient transport support to participants and help them engage in the activities of their choice. NDIS PsychoSocial recovery Support in Perth,WA | NDIS Support Coordination service in WA, Perth

Posted by 5 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/understanding-the-ndis-an-overview-of-provider-travel-reimbursement/)

Description: The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is a government-funded program that provides nationwide support to people with disabilities in Australia. One aspect of the NDIS that can be quite confusing for the providers and the participants alike is provider travel. In the NDIS context, travel refers to a worker going to or from a service when the participant is not present in the car. Many core and capacity-building support providers delivering services like personal care, therapy support, community nursing care, Early Childhood Early Intervention (ECEI) support, training for carers/parents and many other eligible support items can charge the participants for their time under provider travel. The providers are allowed to claim travel expenses only when all the requirements laid down by the NDIS regarding the delivery of the services are met. Among the requirements to be fulfilled, the first and foremost is that the support delivered has to be face- to-face and the travel costs must be specified in the service agreement between the provider and the participant beforehand. The amount charged for provider travel must also comply with the NDIS Pricing Arrangements and Price Limits. If the support worker is travelling to the same region to deliver service to two different participants, providers are required to apportion the travel time between the two clients and then charge in accordance with their respective service agreements. NDIS providers can charge you for provider travel in two ways: a. Labour Costs This is the time that it took the employee to get to or from an appointment, measured in minutes. That means the remoteness of the participant’s location will affect the pricing for provider travel. It is important to note that each leg of the journey is considered a separate session. This includes the trip to the appointment, the return journey from the same appointment, and any additional trips to new appointments. The time it takes to go back from the final participant of the day to the provider’s place of business may only be charged bycapacity-building support providers. As a participant, it is wise to avoid being the last appointment of the day as you will get charged. b. Non-Labour Costs The added expenses a worker incurs while travelling to and from an appointment such as s road tolls, parking fees, running cost of the vehicle, public transport charges etc can be claimed under non-labour costs after negotiating with the participant. Non-labour expenditures may only be claimed in conjunction with labour costs. Aastha Community Services believe that having the right information regarding the NDIS empowers the participant make informed decisions and to protect their choice and control. Click here to know more about NDIS provider travel and pricing arrangements.

Posted by 11 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/empower-your-recovery-with-ndis-psychosocial-recovery-coaching/)

Description: NDIS participants with psychosocial disabilities can significantly benefit from the service of a Psychosocial Recovery Coach. As NDIS support workers with lived or learnt experience in mental health, Recovery Coaches can help people with psychosocial disabilities to navigate the NDIS and make progress towards their goals. This will ensure increased social and economic participation of such participants and empower them to become a part of mainstream society. NDIS Psychosocial Recovery Coachingis a service that focuses on the capacity building of the participants rather than providing assistance with daily activities which are fulfilled by NDIS Core Supports. Recovery Coaches support individuals in their journey towards recovery by spending time with them and getting to know about their personal goals. This will help the Recovery Coaches to assist the participant with recovery planning and guide them towards recovery-oriented support and services. Recovery coaches are expected to connect the participants with a broader system of supports including mainstream supports. Regular interactions with the Psychosocial Recovery Coaches will help develop a recovery-enabling relationship which will encourage the participants to believe in themselves and pursue their goals with confidence and determination. Recovery Coaches must keep accurate records of their interactions with the participants and the assistance provided as they are required to provide reports to the NDIA before the participant’s plan review regarding the progress achieved through recovery coaching. Aastha Community Services believes that Psychosocial Recovery Coaching is an essential support that will redefine the way we approach psychosocial disability and helps the participants to recognise their strengths and let them be in charge of their own recovery. Recovery is not a one-stop destination but it is a constant journey where you can rely on the experience and expertise of our Recovery Coaches. Contact us today to know more about our support and services.

Posted by 25 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/what-are-ndis-practice-standards-and-why-are-they-important/)

Description: The NDIS Practice Standards serve as a guideline for service providers to ensure quality and safe services for people with disabilities. They are a set of rules and quality indicators that define what constitutes high-quality and secure services. They set certain expectations regarding the quality of services that the participants can access from the providers. These Standards also serve as an important yardstick for the providers to evaluate themselves and verify their compliance with the quality standards set by the NDIS Commission. Practice Standards specify the level of service that one must provide to register as an NDIS provider and to maintain their provider registration. Anyone who is applying to become a service provider or looking to renew their registration is audited based on NDIS Practice Standards. As part of this audit, the providers must present documentation and evidence to prove that they comply with the Practice Standards. Depending on the complexity of the services delivered by the provider, the level of evidence that they are expected to provide to the NDIS-approved auditor will also change. A high-level participant outcome and quality indicators serve as the foundation for each NDIS Practice Standard. To demonstrate that the provider achieved a particular participant outcome, their service must reflect the quality indicator mentioned along with it. Providers will receive guidance from the NDIS Commission on the NDIS Practice Standards that apply to their organisation and the kind of quality audit that they need. Aastha Community services also went through the rigorous assessment conducted by the NDIS Commission to become a registered NDIS service provider. We comply with the NDIS Practice Standards laid down by the Commission and continue to do so as indicated by our registered provider status. Our utmost priority is to provide quality services to all our participants so that they can achieve their goals and get the best NDIS outcomes. Contact us today to know more about our services.

NDIS Dysphagia Support in Perth,WA | Registered NDIS service providers in Perth WA | NDIS Support Coordination Service in in Perth WA

Posted by 3 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/essential-guide-to-ndis-dysphagia-support/)

Description: Dysphagia is a health condition where a person finds it difficult to swallow. It can create problems where the person finds it difficult to eat any food, drink water or even swallow normally. This poses the risk of them choking on their food, having poor nutrition and other serious health complications. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) funds dysphagia support if it is directly related to a participant’s disability. The participants will have to provide evidence in the form of reports or evaluations from a speech therapist to substantiate this. Dysphagia support needs will differ from person to person. Depending on the participant’s needs, the NDIS may fund low-cost assistive technology and thickener products that will help the participant in eating and drinking or the assistance of a trained support worker to help them eat their meals. In some cases, the NDIS may also fund the services of a speech pathologist for providing swallowing therapy, preparing mealtime management plans or for training the carers and support workers of the participant to manage dysphagia. Registered NDIS service providers are required to provide dysphagia support safely and competently under the NDIS practice standards. Providers must ensure that their staff have the relevant knowledge and training related to dysphagia management. Regular review of the participant’s mealtime management plans and dysphagia medication also falls under the purview of the service provider. Aastha Community Services can help you access the services of trained and efficient support workers who can help the participants to control their dysphagia symptoms which will allow them to properly enjoy their meals. We also assist the participants in consulting with health professionals to develop effective mealtime management plans that we will regularly monitor to ensure the safety and comfort of our participants. NDIS Support Coordination service / SIL service in Perth WA | NDIS registered Provider in Perth WA - Aastha

Posted by 15 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/accessing-the-ndis-how-does-the-ndis-determine-your-eligibility/)

Description: The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has made it possible for hundreds of thousands of Australians with disabilities to access support and services that help them improve their functional capacity as well as their quality of life. People with disabilities need to meet certain access requirements to become NDIS participants. Such access requirements are in place to ensure that the NDIS funding reaches those who need it the most. Mainly, there are four basic categories of requirements such as age, residence, disability and early intervention to decide the eligibility of a potential participant. The age requirement for the NDIS participants is between 7 and 65. The prospective participants must be living in Australia and they must be Australian citizens, permanent residents, or Protected Special Category Visa holders to be able to benefit from the NDIS. As far as disability requirements are concerned, the NDIS is accessible to people with permanent and significant disabilities who may need customised support to accomplish daily tasks. If you don’t meet the disability requirements, then the NDIA will look at early intervention requirements. That means if a prospective participant’s future need for disability support is reduced if they can access the NDIS right now, then they may be eligible. If the prospective participant needs NDIS assistance now so that their family can develop the skills necessary to assist them, they could be eligible. Those who are applying to access the NDIS must submit all the information and evidence regarding their eligibility requirements so that the NDIA can arrive at a decision. If you think you are eligible for the NDIS, then you can contact your Local Area Coordinator (LAC) to help you access the NDIS support and services. Aastha Community Services is a registered NDIS service provider who can help you access the NDIS by assisting you with the application process. Do reach out to us regarding any queries related to the NDIS.

NDIS Support Coordination service in Perth WA | NDIS registered Provider in Perth WA - Aastha

Posted by 25 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/living-life-your-way-ndis-assistance-with-daily-living/)

Description: The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides support and services that help people with disabilities to actively pursue their goals and to promote their community involvement. When the required assistance is available, it will encourage people with disabilities to pursue their interests and live the life that they want. This includes assistance with daily tasks which gets them ready to face the day and increases their confidence in themselves. The NDIS participants can access help with their everyday activities through the NDIS support called Assistance with Daily Living. It is a service funded in the Core Supports budget of the participant’s NDIS plan. NDIS Assistance with Daily Living allows you to hire trained support workers who can come to your house and help you with your day-to-day activities. The support worker will assist you in preparing meals, taking care of your household chores and managing your personal care activities. As time progresses, you will improve your ability to take care of yourself and your home. Once you become as independent as you want in your everyday needs, you can reduce the amount of support you receive for Assistance with Daily Living and use that funding for other Core Supports such as Community Participation or Consumables. This is possible because of the flexibility of your Core Supports Budget. Aastha Community Services provide reliable everyday support through our highly trained support workers which will help you chase your goals with more confidence and improve your capability to take care of your needs by yourself. With Aastha, you will have greater ‘choice and control’ over the support and services that you receive at all times. We are a registered NDIS service Provider based in WA. Contact us today to know more about NDIS Core Supports and our role in helping you access those supports.

Opportunities for a Better Tomorrow with NDIS Community Participation

Posted by 5 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/opportunities-for-a-better-tomorrow-with-ndis-community-participation)

Description: Community Participation is essential for the health and wellness of people with disabilities. Through the NDIS core supports, participants can access the support they need to partake in various activities in the community. Community Participation has significant benefits which include building the social skills of the participants as well as improving their emotional well-being. Hence, NDIS Community Participation is indeed the right support to have in your NDIS plan if you have a similar goal and want to get more involved with social and community activities. Community Participation is all about engaging in everyday social activities that the participant enjoys doing. It is not one-size-fits-all support where the participant has to sign up or pre-decided activities. To different participants, community participation might mean different things. For some people, it is about paying regular visits to friends and family or going out for recreational activities like movies and museum visits. While others may see community participation as an opportunity to learn a new skill or play their favourite sports. NDIS Community Participation is funded in the Core Supports budget of the participant and covers the cost of the assistance required for the participant to access these activities. The participant has to pay for the general cost of the activity such as membership or entrance fee out of their pockets. Community Participation activities that align with the goals and personal interests of the participant can help them build a better future for themselves. It will help them gain confidence in themselves and learn important life skills. Registered NDIS service providers like Aastha can provide trained support workers who will ensure the safety and comfort of the participants at all times during the activities. Description: The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) enables people with disabilities to live independently and be a part of their communities through various funded supports and services. An important part of being independent is to be able to have your own home and manage daily living. Supported Independent Living (SIL) support provides funding for participants with higher support needs to access the help they need to be independent at home. This support is especially significant for young adults with disabilities whose NDIS goal is to move out of their parents’ home and live life on their own. Under Supported Independent Living support, participants can get help with personal care tasks, household chores and community access activities. The participants can also work on building their self-care and social skills. They can also access overnight support under Supported Independent Living since it is a support meant for people who need more than 8 hours of active disability assistance. Personal living expenses like the cost of your grocery, rent and utility bills are not included in SIL funding. Supported Independent Living (SIL) is a shared support where you reside with other participants and share your NDIS supports and services with them. Supported Independent Living may not be the right option for you if you do not want to share your support with other participants. Supported Independent Living (SIL) increases the choice and control of the participants because it lets them decide where they want to live and with whom they want to share their support with. Aastha Community Services believes that people with disabilities have the right to lead independent and dignified life. We actively strive to provide quality supports and services that can help them pursue their goals in life. Contact us today to know more about our SIL services.

NDIS Support Coordination service in Perth | NDIS Support Coordination service in WA | NDIS registered Provider in Perth

Posted by 2 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/ndis-support-coordination-all-your-queries-answered-)

Description: NDIS Support Coordination is designed to enable the participants to make the most out of the NDIS by coordinating various services, funded, mainstream and informal ones. But it’s also a support which often confuses the participants. In this blog, we have answered a few of the most frequently asked questions by the participants and their families. 1) What does a support coordinator do? A support coordinator is a qualified individual who helps the participant implement the NDIS supports included in the plan and coordinates across the system with providers and service deliveries to ensure that everything is in place for you. They will help you understand the NDIS plan and make informed choices regarding the support you receive. It is funded in the capacity building budget. 2) What do you mean by capacity building? Capacity building refers to strengthening your skills and developing your capabilities to improve independence; it could be anything from helping your education to building skills. It is also a support category in the NDIS budget that funds you to do activities to help you achieve your NDIS goals. 3) Can you change your support coordinator and work without a support coordinator? Yes, participants can choose to change support coordinators at any time. However, according to the service agreement between you and the support coordinator, they will be served with notice before that. Some participants manage their plans without the assistance of a coordinator. If you think you understand your plan enough and are confident to coordinate it, NDIS welcomes you. 4) What are the different levels of Support Coordination? Currently, there are three levels to support coordination service, which is allowed to the participant according to their needs. 1) Support Connection 2) Coordination of Supports 3) Specialist Support Coordination If you are looking for a support coordinator who will help you navigate the NDIS smoothly and negotiate with the best-suited service providers, contact Aastha Community Services. Posted by 2 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/plan-reassessment-is-participant-s-right)

Description: Many people think that once finalized NDIS plans cannot be reassessed. However, the NDIS commission has introduced participant check-ins to ensure that the participants are satisfied with the current plans and to review and change the plan if required. What is Plan Reassessment? An NDIS plan is a detailed report on your goals, needs, requirements, the funding you are eligible to receive and the Support you will be provided. However, as it happens, there is a possibility that you need to make some changes to your plan later on which is made possible through the Plan Reassessment option. Though the reassessment date is prefixed in the plan you don’t have to wait for that long to demand a change. Why would someone need to Reassess their plans? . When you are unhappy with your current plan . Your circumstances changed from the time plan was finalized initially and this will affect your supports. . You have come to realize that you need to increase the support or decrease the support you are receiving within the current plan. How do you make changes to your plans? By filling out a change of circumstances form you can appeal for a Plan reassessment at any time requesting the changes you need to make. And yes, you can go on using the current plan while you wait for the reassessment. After the reassessment, you can either get a new plan or an updated version of the current plan depending on the review of the commission. In the case that you disagree with the reassessment decision you also have the option to challenge it in the internal review. NDIS is adamant about giving power to the participant, which is why the scheme includes the choice to make changes to your plans. Make use of that option if you find you are in need to review your plan. Know More about changing your NDIS Plan click here.

Description: Dependable supports and services allow people with disabilities to lead comfortable and active life. Being able to access the necessary support will help them to do many things on their own. This includes enabling them to live independently at home by assisting them in cooking and eating meals, cleaning the house, doing chores and providing personal care. Under the NDIS, Supported Independent Living is the funded support that helps the participants move into their homes by delivering them daily living support. Supported Independent Living empowers people with higher support needs to experience freedom and more significant opportunities. The SIL funding covers the cost of a support worker who will come and supervise all the daily tasks, including cooking and personal care. The support worker will be available overnight as SIL is meant for people who need extensive support throughout the day. But the SIL funding does not include the participant’s utility bills, rent or groceries. Supported Independent Living gives the participants control over their life and gives them the confidence to live on their own. This funded support is usually shared with participants with similar support needs. It is possible to get Supported Independent Living even if the participants live alone. Still, if that’s the case, then there are many other living options available for them that may better suit their needs. Aastha Community Services is a registered NDIS service provider. They can help the participants seeking Supported Independent Living to develop a roaster of care to submit to the NDIS and help them achieve their goal of living independently. A roaster of care is a document which contains details about your support needs and other essential information. We can also help you access the services of competent service workers. Western Australia NDIS Support | NDIS Support Coordinator Specialist in Perth, WA

Posted by 16 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/understanding-ndis-things-made-easy-with-support-co-ordination)

Description: Disability support services in Australia underwent a major revamp with the introduction of the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS). But several community reports and user feedback available in the public domain suggests that the scheme can be too complex to understand for the newcomers. If you find yourself overwhelmed by the guidelines and eligibility requirements for an NDIS plan, you can avail yourself of the service of a support coordinator. A support coordinator is simply another term used for the type of provider that can help you understand and utilize the supports and services you can access through your NDIS plan. Depending on the needs and life circumstances of the participant, their NDIS plan may include funds for support coordination. As you become more efficient in handling your plan, you can opt to self-manage your NDIS funding. Make sure that you ask a lot of questions and communicate your needs to the support coordinator before entering a service agreement. You have choice and control over the supports that you receive and you can switch support coordinators anytime if you are not satisfied with their service. A good support coordinator must be a facilitator and they should never make any decisions on your behalf. Here at Aastha, a registered NDIS service provider, our disability support coordinators are up to date with all NDIS processes and are highly skilled in implementing NDIS plans without compromising your choice and control. Our services are available in Perth, Joondalup, Mirrabooka, Morley, Osborne Park, Victoria Park, Canningvale, Maddington, Armadale, Cockburn Central, Kwinana, Rockingham, and Mandurah.

NDIS Capacity Building Support in Perth, WA | Core Support in Joondalup, Mirrabooka, Morley, Osborne Park, Victoria Park

Posted by 16 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/community-participation-services-and-flexibility-of-your-ndis-core-supports-budget)

Description: National Disability Insurance Scheme introduced nationwide in Australia in 2016 aims to provide reasonable and necessary support to differently-abled individuals to achieve their goals in life. NDIS funding ensures that a person’s disability doesn’t stop them from exercising their choice and giving up their independence. Moreover, this scheme helps them to be an active part of their community and social fabric. Your NDIS plan may consist of three types of support budgets. They are Core Supports budget, Capacity Building Supports budget and Capital Supports budget. Some of the funding that you receive is flexible while some supports and their funding cannot be substituted. Assistance with Social and Community Participation is something that you can benefit from under a flexible Core Supports budget. For example, you may be using your money in the Core Supports budget to fund Assistance with Daily Life. But as you become more self-assured in handling your daily activities, you can rely less on daily assistance and use that funding to take part in community activities. Your Capacity Building Supports budget will also help you in developing your community participation skills by funding recreational activities like camping, classes and other group activities that build your skills but it’s not flexible unlike your Core Supports budget. A registered NDIS service provider like Aastha can help you understand the supports you can avail of under each budget category. It is important to understand that NDIS is in no way a welfare scheme but it is an initiative that helps differently-abled individuals to become more autonomous and self- sufficient. NDIS Community participation services can help you develop the necessary skills to be a contributing member of society. Aastha’s NDIS Community Participation Services are provided in Perth, Joondalup, Mirrabooka, Morley, Osborne Park, Victoria Park, Canningvale, Maddington, Armadale, Cockburn Central, Kwinana, Rockingham, and Mandurah

Quality Living with Personalised NDIS Disability Service In Perth,WA

Posted by 22 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/quality-living-with-personalised-ndis-disability-support)

Description: The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) provides funds for eligible people with disabilities to access personalised supports and services that are designed to improve the quality of their life. When it comes to disability care, one size does not fit all. That is why personalised disability support is important as it increases the ‘choice and control’ of people with disabilities over the care they receive and their life in general. The NDIS recognises the unique needs, interests and priorities of its participants and helps them achieve their goals in life through supports that are found to be ‘reasonable and necessary.’ The NDIS makes it possible for people with disabilities to have an improved quality of life by enabling them to become more independent, ensuring access to new skills, jobs and community participation. Core Supports categories like Assistance with Daily Life, Consumables, Transport and Assistance with Social and Community Participation will provide an active and goal-oriented lifestyle for the participants. Capacity building supports help them gain the skills required to achieve the life that they want. Support Coordination, services of Psychosocial Recovery Coaches and improved living arrangements are examples of capacity-building supports. Participants can access assistive technology for improved mobility and functionality under the Capital Supports budget. The NDIS supports and services aim to put the participants in charge of their own lives and make them less dependent on others. All the essential supports required for leading a quality life are available under the NDIS and people with disabilities can utilise the ones that best suit their needs. It is the NDIS service providers who deliver the above-mentioned supports and services to the participants. Aastha is a registered NDIS service provider who can provide tailor-made support to the participants that can help them lead a dignified and purposeful life. A Journey of a Thousand Miles Begins with a Single Step: NDIS Psychosocial Support in WA

Posted by 23 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/a-journey-of-a-thousand-miles-begins-with-a-single-step-ndis-psychosocial-support)

Description: The psychosocial disability support funded by the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) seeks to help differently-abled individuals struggling with disabilities related to their mental health. During the past few years, the NDIA has been giving more importance to mental health. The agency organised numerous mental health workshops for professionals and NDIS Local Area Coordinators. But not everyone with a mental health condition is eligible for the support. Evidence substantiating psychosocial disability as the participant’s primary condition and that it is likely to be permanent needs to be provided to the NDIA. The evidence to support the disability claim can be provided by health professionals, a case manager or even the carer of the prospective participant. If the participant is not in a condition to apply for the support or their disability hampers their ability to understand that they need support, their legal guardians can provide consent on their behalf. There is a strong stigma attached to mental health and related conditions. But the NDIS gives utmost importance to your privacy and doesn’t ask you any questions about your diagnosis other than the queries about how it affects your functional capacity. Through registered service providers you can access psychological therapies, psychosocial support, and community-based support funded by the NDIS. Services of psychosocial recovery coaches are available to help you become more confident in yourself. Recovery coaches are available to help you in your journey towards healing and recovery. Aastha is a registered NDIS service provider who works with qualified professionals to deliver you the best possible mental health supports out there. We provide NDIS psychosocial support all over WA . Contact us today with your queries and we will guide you in the right direction.

Enhancing Wellness: NDIS and Mental Health in People with Disabilities

Posted by 23 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/enhancing-wellness-psychosocial-recovery-coaches-for-people-with-disabilities)

Description: People with disabilities are often disproportionately impacted by mental health challenges. Life can be even more challenging if the person has a psychosocial disability. In Australia, mental health services are available under ‘mainstream supports’ across all states and territories to everyone. These state-run mental health systems are usually responsible for clinical services such as diagnoses and treatments. National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) mainly funds mental health services that are not clinical and that which helps people with disabilities to improve their day-to-day functionality, recovery, and social participation. In recent years, NDIS has made some significant efforts towards providing mental health support items such as a psychosocial recovery coach. The goal is to help the NDIS participants lead a recovery-oriented life. A psychosocial recovery coach is an NDIS funded support worker who has mental health knowledge. They are well trained and often have various certifications in mental health or mental health peer work. Some recovery coaches can even help you with knowledge gained from their mental health journey. They are referred to as recovery coaches with lived experiences. An NDIS funded psychosocial recovery coach will spend quality time with you and your loved ones to assess your needs. Then with the help of their extensive knowledge about NDIS and related disability services, they can help you access the needful amenities for tending to your mind and body. Aastha is a registered NDIS service provider based in Perth, WA. We provide NDIS mental health assistance such as Psychosocial Support and services of Psychosocial Recovery Coaches. We can connect you with services and resources that will make your mental health journey goal-oriented and less lonely. All our staff are well trained and up to date with NDIS guidelines. NDIS Service for Psycho-Social Recovery Support in Rockingham, Mandurah, Perth, WA

Posted by 25 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/psychological-support-from-psycho-social-recovery-coach)

Description: A recent addition to the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), Psycho-social recovery coach, was added after realizing the importance of mental well-being in the recovery plan of a participant. A psycho-social recovery coach is support available to people who have disabilities as a result of mental health issues. Under this service, the mental health specialist will help the participant make progress in their daily lives by providing non-clinical mental health services. • A recovery coach will help you achieve your NDIS goals and aspirations • They can make you a recovery plan to improve your independence skills • They can be an emotional support to guide you through your tough times during the term of your plan. For instance, the coach will motivate you and help you with decision-making. • Assist with the NDIS supports • They can work with your clinical practitioner for better progress. • They can put together and implement a recovery plan for you according to your needs. The Recovery coach is a support staff that works closely with the participant and hence the understanding and smooth communication between the participant and the coach is the primary factor in achieving the purpose of this support. The recovery coach will need to conduct one or multiple sessions with the participant to share information and make an assessment. A Psycho-social recovery coach needs to be empathetic to the participant’s psyche. Hence, you need to be careful to choose the right person and provider for you. Aastha community services is a registered NDIS provider who can deliver you the best NDIS Mental health support in Western Australia. We can provide you with recovery coaches who will collaborate with you to help you get the most out of your NDIS plan.

Posted by 25 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/unboxing-support-coordination-for-you)

Description: Understanding and implementing NDIS on your own could prove to be an exhausting task. It is to take off this weight from the shoulders of the participants that NDIS offers Support Co-ordination Support. NDIS Support coordination is a flexible service with numerous benefits. However, in this blog, we are talking about the different levels of support coordination based on the complexity of the participants’ requirements. Level 1: Support Connection Level 2: Support Co-ordination Level 3: Specialist Support Co-ordination Level 1 is required in the initial stage of the NDIS plan. ● The support coordinator will help you identify the various formal, informal, and funded supports available and essential to implement the plan successfully. ● They will help you reach the service agreement. ● Ensure that the delivery issues are resolved and the arrangements are working smoothly ● Help you make decisions regarding the service providers Level 2 Support Coordination helps you connect and coordinate with informal, formal and funded services in a complex service delivery environment. Support Co-ordination demands more of an active engagement than the connecting services in level 1 ● Regular active management and continuous review of supports ● Crisis resolution ● Reporting the progress of the participant to NDIA ● Helps the participant to build and strengthen their skills and abilities Level 3 has few additional features, along with level 2 support coordination. ● Specialist support coordination is provided when high-level risks are identified in the participant’s life situation and living condition. ● Helps to resolve and remove the barriers so that the participant can access the supports with more ease and independence. ● Reduce complexity in the service delivery environment ● Negotiate support solutions that intersect between mainstream services and the support providers. NDIS Disability Service In Western Australia | NDIS Service in WA | Aastha

Posted by 25 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/right-way-to-treat-people-with-disabilities)

Description: Inclusiveness is the hallmark of a healthy society. Putting aside the redundant stereotypes and allowing people to embrace their real selves with dignity is the first step towards this destination. People with disabilities are a community that suffers the brunt of society’s judgmental gaze. Do you want to know how not to be offensive to someone with a disability? • Stop objectifying them People with disabilities are not your object of entertainment. Don’t label them as victims and stop with your patronizing words. While it is important to be respectful, your gazes of shock and incredulous admiration could make a person with a disability uncomfortable. Look at them as you will at any other human being because that’s what they are striving for. • Ask before assisting Just because a person has some kind of functional impairment, doesn’t mean they are looking for sympathy. Many feel proud of accomplishing personal tasks on their own. So, ask before trying to help them or wait for the person to ask. Because even if what you are doing is coming from a good place, it could make the other person uncomfortable. • Make Eye Contact While interacting with a person with a disability, make eye contact. If they have someone to take care of them, don’t avoid the disabled person and talk to the carer only. Doing so is taking away their power as an individual. Like anyone else, people with disabilities also like to be treated with respect. • Language It is not just actions, but language is also changing to be more accommodating and inclusive. Terms like handicapped and abnormal are considered offensive in this day and age. If you are keen on attempting to be a decent human being, make sure to address disabled people with the right terms. Mental health Disability Support in Perth, Cockburn Central, Kwinana, Rockingham, WA

Posted by 25 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/ndis-mental-health-services-in-the-big-picture)

Description: NDIS, the insurance scheme for people with disabilities in Australia, has progressed by leaps and bounds to bring the disabled community to the forefront and making them equal stakeholders in the development of society. However, even with all the progress, we have made, people with disabilities resulting from mental conditions or more specifically, psycho-social disabilities are at a disadvantage when it comes to avail the complete benefit of the scheme and realizing their full potential. NDIS seeks to support those people whose social life is at significant detriment due to their psychological conditions, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. Being a relatively new initiative by the NDIS Commission, many are still confused about the scope of mental health support NDIS can offer and whether they are eligible for the support. Only non-clinical mental health supports are provided through NDIS and the gap between mainstream mental health services and NDIS causes difficulty for the participants. NDIS is not to be seen as a replacement of mainstream services instead, the commission’s conviction is that maximum benefit can be achieved by properly bringing together both the systems. To realise this for participants with mental health disabilities, NDIS has recently added the provision of a recovery coach to bridge the gap between the two. Mental health is a complex condition to assess and hence a lot of suitable candidates slip through the cracks. Intending to remedy this, NDIS has changed their working principle to focus on the functional disability caused by the mental condition rather than the diagnosis itself. If you are a qualified participant for NDIS mental health support, it is important to find a service provider who will cater to your needs with compassion. If you are in Western Australia, Aastha can be that provider for you. A registered NDIS provider, Aastha’s services are available anywhere in Perth, Joondalup, Mirrabooka, Morley, Osborne Park, Victoria Park, Canningvale, Maddington, Armadale, Cockburn Central, Kwinana, Rockingham, and Mandurah. What Mental Health Supports Can the NDIS Provide

Posted by 1 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/moving-ahead-in-life-what-mental-health-supports-can-the-ndis-provide)

Description: Ever since its introduction in 2013, the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has strived to empower people with disabilities through various government-funded disability supports and services. This nationwide scheme provides direct funding to eligible participants, including those with psychosocial disabilities, for them to purchase the supports they need. Like any other disability support funded by the NDIS, mental health supports are included in a participant’s plan if they meet the NDIS funding criteria and are found to be ‘reasonable and necessary.’ The NDIS usually funds mental health supports that are not clinical in nature. Typically, NDIS-funded mental health supports focus on improving the functional capacity of the participants and those supports are directly related to their psychosocial disability. Psychosocial Recovery Coaches are an important NDIS-funded support item. Recovery Coaches are mental health experts who help the participants in their mental health recovery journey. According to the NDIS, recovery means that the participant is able to achieve an ideal level of personal, social and emotional well-being despite their psychosocial disability. Recovery is an incredibly personal process and will be different for each person. The NDIS is not supposed to be a replacement for the informal and mainstream supports of the participants. Instead, it is meant to work together with other support systems. Therefore, the NDIS will fund mental health supports only if they are found to be the most appropriate body to fund them. Registered NDIS service providers can guide the participants in this regard by assisting them in accessing the supports that best suit their disability needs. Aastha Community Services believe that people with psychosocial disabilities should have equal opportunities for social and economic participation just like any other member of society. We can help you connect with trained and competent professionals who can help you move ahead in life with the assistance of the right mental health supports. Contact us today to know more.

How NDIS Support Coordination Can Help You

Posted by 8 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/aspire-more-achieve-more-how-ndis-support-coordination-can-help-you)

Description: People with disabilities who are new to their NDIS journey may need proper guidance and support to understand and implement their NDIS plan. A proper understanding of one’s NDIS plan is important in ensuring the best outcomes for the participants. One of the NDIS- funded supports that can help them greatly in this regard is called support coordination. If support coordination is funded in a participant’s plan, they can access the services of a support coordinator who will help them to connect with service providers and assist them in coordinating their supports. At its heart, support coordination is a capacity-building support. That means along with establishing and maintaining the supports of the participants, a good support coordinator will increase the capacity and confidence of the participants to manage their NDIS plan on their own. Support Coordinators must have a thorough understanding of the NDIS including the price guide, various budget categories and the meaning and implication of NDIS phrases like ‘reasonable and necessary’ etc. Along with coordinating the NDIS-funded supports, the support coordinators must also connect the participants with their mainstream and informal supports. One of the biggest benefits of support coordination is that it will open up new doors for the participants to explore more supports and services to achieve their NDIS goals. It also gives them the confidence to set higher goals and actively pursue them. With the right support coordinator by their side, the participants will be prepared for any unexpected events and crisis situations that come their way. Through support coordination, participants can benefit from the right combination of supports that help them lead the life that they desire. Aastha Community Services can assist you to connect with experienced support coordinators who will help you get the maximum benefits out of your NDIS plan. Contact us today to set an appointment.

Psychosocial Recovery Coaches will also spend time with the participants to understand their needs, motivate them and increase the capability of the participants to be independent. They can help you develop individual recovery plans and connect you with relevant support and services to achieve your NDIS goals. Aastha is a registered NDIS service provider who believes that a person’s recovery is not limited to good health. Support Coordination for NDIS participants | NDIS Service providers in WA

Posted by 26 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/building-trust-first-meeting-with-your-support-coordinator)

Description: NDIS Support Coordination is a capacity building support that helps differently-abled individuals to successfully implement their NDIS plan and manage their funded supports. Though it may look like a case management support at first glance, Support Coordination is not intended to fulfil that role. Support coordination aims to build the capacity of the participants to coordinate the supports available in their NDIS plan and thereby increase their confidence in themselves and improve their skills to navigate the NDIS on their own. Your first meeting with the support coordinator is very important as there are several important things to be kept in mind. At first, the support coordinator will explain their role in detail and then walk you through the various funded supports available, explain how to make service bookings, how to manage your NDIS funds, how to navigate through the NDIS websites and various other details necessary for you to understand your plan and to find out the best ways to put it into practice. For the meeting to be successful, it is important that you ask questions and share your goals and expectations. You can ask questions regarding your support coordinator’s plan for helping you reach your goals as well as their past work with other clients. When a support coordinator recommends a service provider, you have the right to ask questions regarding the reason behind that suggestion before making a decision. The first meeting will also tell you whether your support coordinator is compatible with you or not depending on how well they understood and responded to your queries. Over time, the participants who avail of support coordination will become independent enough to manage and coordinate various funded supports on their own. But till then, registered NDIS service providers like Aastha can connect participants with competent and empathetic support coordinators who are well acquainted with all the intricacies of the NDIS and its various supports. They will ensure that you are getting the best outcomes out of your NDIS plan.

This has helped to maximise their independence and made them an important part of the workforce as well. One NDIS-funded support which has significantly helped to improve the functional skills of people with disabilities is a Core Support called Assistance with Daily Life. Core Supports like Assistance with Daily life enhance the abilities of the NDIS participants to reach their goals. For example, depending on your needs and your NDIS plan, skilled NDIS support workers will visit you at your home and provide assistance with daily personal tasks which allows you to spend your day productively. Be it taking part in community activities or finally pursuing an employment opportunity, Assistance with Daily Living will be a big help to pursue those goals. Through this funded support, you can access assistance for your daily activities such as bathing, bowel management, getting dressed, cooking, yard maintenance etc. Sometimes, depending on the disability-related needs and personal circumstances of the participant, they can access higher levels of personal care support. As the participants improve their functionality and develop more independence over time to take care of their day-to-day activities, they can reduce the amount spent on one-on-one support. That money can then be used for community participation or any other core support that helps them achieve their goals. Registered NDIS service providers can help the participants connect with highly trained support workers. If you have Assistance with Daily Living funded in your NDIS plan and need to access support workers in WA do reach out to Aastha. Contact us today to know more.

Healthy Mind for a Healthy Life: NDIS Mental Health Support

Posted by 7 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/healthy-mind-for-a-healthy-life-ndis-mental-health-support)

Description: Looking after our mental health is as vital as taking care of our physical health. Disabilities that may result from mental health problems are referred to as psychosocial disabilities. When it comes to people with disabilities, mental health conditions can cause significantly reduced functional capacity which hinders their ability to manage everyday life. Psychosocial disabilities can also impact the social life, employability and personal relationships of an individual. The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) has developed a recovery-oriented framework so that those with psychosocial disabilities can benefit more from NDIS support. According to the framework, the NDIS will support the personal recovery of the participants by helping them understand the NDIS supports better, cultivating the participants’ ability to make decisions and improving support items such as the services of a Psychosocial Recovery Coach. Also, part of the framework is the principle of valuing the lived experiences of people’s mental health journey so that better policies can be developed. It is also emphasised in the framework that the NDIA will work in collaboration with both public and private mental health services, various levels of government as well as service providers and mental health professionals to provide better support for the participants. Recognising the changing support needs of a participant when it comes to psychosocial disabilities and encouraging informed decision-making among participants are also part of the principles that characterize the NDIS framework. Last but not least is building a competent workforce that guides the participants at every step of their NDIS journey. Aastha is a registered NDIS service provider who firmly believes in recovery-oriented policies and practices. We constantly strive to make the outcomes better for people with psychosocial disabilities. Contact us today to know more about accessing NDIS mental health support.

Finding Your NDIS Provider in Perth : Top Qualities to Consider

Posted by 17 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/finding-your-ndis-provider-in-perth-top-qualities-to-consider)

Description: People with disabilities who are eligible for the NDIS receive the benefits of the scheme in the form of various supports and services through NDIS service providers. That means choosing the right provider is a crucial decision made by the participants which should be made only after careful deliberation and research. The right provider will help you navigate the NDIS and make your journey towards your goals easier. Opting for a provider who is a mediocre fit for your needs will make your life tiresome. A good service provider will act professional and make you feel comfortable at the same time. They will be patient and compassionate while explaining things to you and are inclusive and mindful of cultural differences. Always check out the qualifications of the support staff employed by the provider before signing up for their services. A reliable service provider will only employ people with expertise and proper credentials. They will guide you towards NDIS support and services that align with your NDIS goals. Their focus will be on building your capacity and increasing your independence rather than making you dependent on them. Any service provider who makes decisions on your behalf is not good. Respecting the choice of a participant and not forcing them to do things that they don’t want to do is an important quality to keep an eye out for in a provider. Always remember that you are free to change your provider at any point in time if you are not happy with their services. Aastha is a registered NDIS provider who recognises the importance of letting participants decide what kind of care they receive. You can set an appointment with us to decide whether we are the ideal provider for you or not. Contact us today to find out more about us and our services.

Registered NDIS service in Perth,WA | NDIS Recovery Coach Service in Perth,WA

Posted by 10 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/a-helping-hand-for-your-mental-health-with-ndis-psychosocial-recovery-coach)

Description: The NDIS has made substantial strides in improving its approach and services provided for individuals suffering from mental health illnesses and related disability conditions. As part of integrating recovery-oriented practices within the NDIS and taking heed of earlier criticisms regarding accessibility, the National Disability Insurance Scheme has introduced a support item called Psychosocial Recovery Coach to help participants with psychosocial disabilities. Psychosocial Recovery Coaches are NDIS support workers with mental health knowledge. Some of them have lived experiences of mental health issues and the others have learned experiences of the same. Recovery Coaches bring with them deep knowledge about mental health issues and various supports provided by the NDIS. Utilising this knowledge and their professionalqualifications, they can help the participants to identify their goals and develop a person-centred recovery plan. These Recovery Coaches also act as a conduit between the participant and the broader system of support and services that aligns with the participant’s NDIS goals and recovery plan. Most importantly, Psychosocial Recovery Coaches build a trusting relationship with the participants and their families to enable recovery and to understand the preference of the participant in terms of how they wish to receive care. Recovery Coaches also encourage and help them in decision-making and managing stress. Consistent progress reports are provided to the NDIA as well as the participant about the development regarding the recovery goals, NDIS funds and coordination of support. Documentation of all the interactions with the participant and work done to help them are kept by the Recovery Coaches. Achieving your NDIS goals is easier with the help of a Recovery Coach if you are struggling with a psychosocial disability. NDIS Psychosocial Disability Support in Perth,WA | Support Coordination in Perth | Aastha

Posted by 10 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/being-kind-to-your-mind-anxiety-disorders-and-the-ndis)

Description: The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) changed the way disability support is perceived all over the world. It has set the precedent for quality, efficiency and outcomes in disability care. With the help of the NDIS, people with disabilities can improve their capacity to lead normal lives and exercise choice over the care they receive. But when it comes to people with psychosocial disabilities and the NDIS, there is still a long way to go in terms of accessibility and inclusivity. The term ‘psychosocial disability’ is used to characterise impairments that may result from mental health issues. Anxiety disorders such as obsessive-compulsive disorder, post- traumatic stress disorder, agoraphobia and social phobia can result in psychosocial disabilities. It can severely impact a person’s capacity for employment, ability to go to school or build healthy social relationships. Since access to the NDIS is determined by a functional, practical evaluation of what a person can and cannot accomplish, people with anxiety disorders could be eligible for the NDIS. But they should be able to provide evidence that they have significantly reduced functional capacity in six domains listed by the NDIS namely mobility, communication, learning, social interaction, self-care and self-management. The NDIS may also need corroboration regarding the permanency of your disability condition. Though it may seem like an uphill battle to gain access to the services, help is always available for prospective participants. Registered NDIS service providers like Aastha can help prospective NDIS participants to figure out the nuances of eligibility conditions and walk them through the process. Here at Aastha, we believe that mental health is as important as one’s physical health and we are constantly striving to make the NDIS journey easier for our clients. Contact us today to know more about access to the NDIS and psychosocial disabilities.

Description: Support Coordination is a capacity building support from the NDIS that helps the participants to access support and services effectively. Not only does a support coordinator help the participant to understand their plan better, but they also assist the participant in planning and coordinating various supports and services. Having a support coordinator at their service will help people with disabilities to get better results out of their NDIS plans. Gradually over time, the individual will develop the skills and confidence to coordinate the supports on their own. Like all the other NDIS supports, Support Coordination also falls into the purview of a ‘reasonable and necessary’ assessment. Therefore, the level of support coordination funded in an NDIS plan, as well as whether support coordination is included in your plan at all will differ from person to person. The services of a support coordinator can be immensely helpful when you are getting ready for your Plan Review meetings, entering into service agreements and making service bookings. NDIS Made Easy: Benefits of Support Coordination in WA

Posted by 15 days ago (https://www.aastha.com.au/blog/ndis-made-easy-benefits-of-support-coordination-in-wa)

Description: As Australia’s first national Scheme for people with disabilities, the NDIS makes sure that support and guidance are available for the NDIS participants at every step of the way. Support Coordination is one such capacity-building support that can be included in an NDIS plan to help the participants to better navigate the supports and services that they receive. The professional who delivers this particular support to the participants is known as a Support Coordinator. The primary goal of the Support Coordination service is to assist the participant in getting maximum benefits out of their plan and thereby help them reach their goals. Support coordination is included in an NDIS plan wherever it is found to be ‘reasonable and necessary.’ There are numerous benefits to having support coordination added to your plan. A skilled and experienced support coordinator will help you find the right combination of support and services that will help your reach your NDIS goals faster. They will build your confidence by teaching you more about the NDIS and how to sail smoothly through various processes including plan reviews and service agreement negotiations. Support Coordinators can arrange appointments for you and even handle unexpected crises such as service interruptions or cancellations. They will make alternate arrangements to avoid any inconveniences. NDIS Support Coordination is available at three levels: Support connection, Support coordination and Specialist support coordination. Here at Aastha, a registered NDIS service provider, we can help you choose the level of support coordination that suits your needs. If the level of funded support coordination is already stated in your plan, we can help you connect with the best professionals who have many years of experience as support coordinators. You can reach out to us to know more about the various levels of support coordination. We are based in Perth and our services are available all over the cities of Western Australia.
